How I can help

Help with grief

What is grief, and why is it important to work through it?

Grief is a natural reaction to loss – whether you have lost a person, a relationship, a dream or a way of life. It can feel all-consuming and unpredictable, and it often comes in waves. Some days you may feel okay, while other days are marked by heaviness and emptiness.

I help you navigate your grief and understand the feelings that come up. Together we look at how grief affects your life, and I give you tools to handle it in a way that feels meaningful to you. Grief can't be fixed or disappear overnight, but through therapy you can learn to live with it in a way where it doesn't control you.

What happens in a grief therapy session?

In our first conversation, we talk about what you have lost and how grief shows up in your life. Perhaps you feel guilt, anger or a sense of meaninglessness – perhaps you find it hard to get back to everyday life. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and we start from whatever takes up the most space for you.

I work in an emotion-focused way, which means we go into the feelings that lie behind the grief. It can feel vulnerable, but it helps you understand why grief affects you the way it does, and how you can handle it in a more helpful way.

Depending on your situation, we can work on:

✔ Putting your grief into words and finding a way to express it
✔ Understanding the thoughts and feelings that can arise after a loss
✔ Working through guilt, anger or unresolved relationships
✔ Finding new ways to live with missing someone or something
✔ Creating meaning and finding direction in life again

How many sessions you need depends on your process. Some people need a shorter course, while others want longer-term support. I adapt the therapy to suit you and your situation.

Who can benefit from grief therapy?

Grief therapy is for you if you have lost something or someone and feel that grief is affecting your everyday life, your mood or your ability to function. It may be relevant if you:

✔ Have lost someone close to you
✔ Have been through a divorce or a break-up
✔ Have lost your job or your sense of identity in a major life change
✔ Are experiencing complicated grief, where the pain doesn't ease over time
✔ Feel stuck in your grief and need support to move on

Grief is not something you have to "get over", but something you can learn to live with. Therapy can help you find a way forward where grief is allowed to be there, but doesn't rule your whole life.

Common themes in grief therapy

Many people find that grief shows itself in different ways. Some of the themes we often work with in therapy are:

🔹 How you cope with missing someone in everyday life
🔹 Guilt and anger connected with the loss
🔹 Feelings of loneliness or isolation
🔹 Fear of losing again, or fear of the future
🔹 Finding new meaning after a major loss

How do I work?

Trust and confidentiality

Starting a therapeutic process and opening up to someone you don't know can feel vulnerable. I understand that completely, and I take great care to create a safe and confidential space for your change. The focus of our conversations will vary, and nothing is too big or too small to bring up. I know that the relationship between us matters most, so the method is adapted to you – not the other way round.

Body and emotions

I work with relationships – both your relationships with others, such as your partner, children, siblings or parents, and your relationship with yourself. Relationships are central to how you relate to your emotions and your wellbeing. My aim is to help you understand your emotional patterns and give you tools that make it easier to live in the present and sense yourself with clarity.

The framework

I offer a free introductory call because I know that the relationship between us is crucial to your therapy. The course of therapy is adapted to your process, so there is no fixed recipe for how often we should meet or how many sessions you need. It depends on your needs and your progress.

Why in-person therapy?

Meeting in person creates a particularly present and safe setting for therapy. Here we can work directly with bodily signals, facial expressions and the energy in the room, which can be a valuable part of the process. I keep waiting times short, so you can get an appointment quickly – often within a week.
